The print screen key is a physical keyboard key found on most computer keyboards. When we press the print screen key, the key sends the current screen image to the computer clipboard. You can find the key with the abbreviation as Prscr, PRTSC, PrtScrn, Prt Scrn, or Ps/SR. It is generally located at the top-right of the keyboard.
As, the Print Screen key has the ability to take a screenshot of the computer screen, some organisation wants this function to be disabled to stop the critical data leakage. We have mentioned the registry key method to disable the print screen key button.
Warning: Before using Registry Editor, please make sure you take the backup of the registry. Please test this in lab environment, before implementing in a live/production environment. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to re-install Windows to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
Step to Disable the Print Screen Keyboard Key
1) Go to Run >> Type REGEDIT >> Press Enter (This will open the Registry Editor)
2) Once Registry Editor open, navigate to the below key and create the DWORD "Scancode Map"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,2a,e0,37,e0,00,00,37,e0,\

Step to Re-Enable the Print Screen Keyboard Key
1) Go to Run >> Type REGEDIT >> Press Enter (This will open the Registry Editor)
2) Once Registry Editor open, navigate to the below key and delete the DWORD "Scancode Map"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=-
